Encounter Level: 3
Setup:
As the party travels through the forest, they stumble upon a serene and unusually quiet glade. The area is lush with vibrant flora and bathed in an ethereal light, seemingly untouched by the outside world. However, this tranquility is a deception, concealing the presence of magical creatures protecting their domain.
Creatures:
- 1 Enchanted Dryad (Use stats for Dryad, MM pg. 121)
- 2 Twig Blights (MM pg. 32)
Encounter Description:
The party enters the glade, and the atmosphere changes almost immediately. The air grows thick with enchantment, and the flora seems to pulse with a faint magical aura. A gentle breeze carries soft whispers, as if the forest itself is trying to communicate. As the adventurers proceed further, a beautiful yet otherworldly figure steps out from behind an ancient oak. This is an Enchanted Dryad, the guardian of the glade. She appears sorrowful and wary, her eyes darting towards the intruders.
“Why do you trespass upon my sacred ground?” the Dryad asks, her voice carrying an echo of the forest’s whispers. The party barely has time to respond before two Twig Blights emerge from the underbrush, ready to defend their protector.
Combat Tactics:
- Enchanted Dryad: The Dryad will use her Fey Charm ability to charm one of the party members, preferably a high-damage dealer or spellcaster, to turn the tide of battle. She will then use her Entangle spell to control the battlefield and hinder the movement of the remaining party members. If seriously threatened, she will retreat into a tree, using her Tree Stride ability to escape or reposition.
- Twig Blights: The Twig Blights will focus on engaging the party members who are not charmed, using their claw attacks to chip away at the party’s defenses. They will use the dense foliage to their advantage, attempting to flank and ambush the adventurers.
Treasure:
Upon defeating the Dryad and her Twig Blights, the party can search the glade and find a small cache of nature-themed treasures hidden within a hollow tree stump. Among the treasures, they find a Ring of Natural Attunement.
Ring of Natural Attunement Uncommon, requires attunement
This ring is fashioned from intertwined vines and leaves, magically bound together. While wearing this ring, you gain the following benefits:
- You have advantage on Wisdom (Survival) checks to track creatures and navigate through forests.
- You can cast the Speak with Animals spell once per day without expending a spell slot.
The Dryad’s essence imbues the ring, allowing the wearer to connect deeply with the natural world, making it a prized item for any adventurer attuned to nature.
