Item Type: Very Rare, Wondrous Item (cloak), requires attunement
Description:
The Aegis of the Twilight Mantle is a shimmering, dusk-colored cloak woven from the enchanted silks of fey spiders. The fabric appears to shift in color, from deep purple to the golds and reds of a setting sun, as it ripples with the movement of the wearer. Embroidered along the edges of the cloak are silver threads that glimmer faintly in low light, forming protective runes of old elven script. It exudes an aura of twilight calm and mystical protection.
Magical Properties:
- Veil of Shadows: While wearing the cloak, the wearer can use an action to become invisible until the start of their next turn. The invisibility fades if the wearer attacks or casts a spell.
Mechanics: Usable once per short or long rest. - Twilight Shield: Once per long rest, as a reaction, the wearer can summon a shield of twilight energy when hit by an attack. This shimmering barrier provides a +3 bonus to AC against the triggering attack and grants resistance to all damage from that attack.
Mechanics: The shield dissipates after the attack resolves. - Duskstep: As a bonus action, the wearer can step into a shadow within 5 feet of them and teleport to another shadow within 60 feet that they can see.
Mechanics: Usable a number of times equal to the wearer’s proficiency bonus per long rest. - Radiant and Necrotic Resistance: The cloak offers resistance to radiant and necrotic damage while attuned.
Item Lore:
The Aegis of the Twilight Mantle was once worn by a legendary dusk elf who guarded the borderlands between the material plane and the Feywild. He was said to appear and disappear with the coming and going of the sun, protecting his people from invading shadows and radiant fey alike. Over the years, the cloak absorbed the power of twilight, balancing between the light and dark, shielding its wearer from the dangers of both. Some say that the cloak even holds a fragment of the Feywild within its fabric, granting the wearer insight into both planes of existence.
