Encounter: The Webbed Glade

Description: As the party navigates a dense forest path, the air grows still and an eerie silence falls. The usual chorus of forest life is absent, replaced by a faint, unsettling rustling sound. The path ahead is obscured by thick webs glistening with dew, stretching between the trees like a macabre tapestry.

Event: When the party steps into the webbed area, they notice several cocooned shapes hanging from the branches. Suddenly, from the shadows of the canopy, a trio of giant spiders emerges, their eyes glinting with malevolent intelligence. These spiders have made this part of the forest their hunting ground, and they perceive the adventurers as their next meal.

Challenge:

  • Giant Spiders (3): The spiders use their webs to entangle and immobilize their prey before closing in for the kill.
    • HP: 22 each
    • AC: 15
    • Web Attack: Ranged +5 (restrains target, DC 12 Strength check to escape)
    • Bite Attack: Melee +4, 1d8+2 piercing damage plus 1d8 poison damage (DC 11 Constitution save for half poison damage).

Terrain Features:

  • Webs: Movement through the webs is difficult terrain and requires a DC 10 Dexterity check to avoid becoming restrained.
  • Cocooned Victims: Searching the cocoons may yield survivors or additional loot, including a note hinting at a greater danger deeper in the forest.

Aftermath: Defeating the spiders allows the party to search the glade. Among the webs, they find a cocooned traveler who, if freed, offers valuable information about a nearby hidden treasure or an upcoming threat. Additionally, the party may discover a few gold coins and a minor magical item (like a potion of healing) within the webbed remains of previous victims.
